sustainability

At One Belvedere Tuscany, sustainability is not just a choice—it’s the essence of everything we do. Rooted in regenerative agriculture, holistic practices, and measurable accountability, our commitment to the land, the environment, and future generations is unwavering.

a thoughtful approach to hospitality

From farm to table, water to energy, every detail reflects our reverence for nature and dedication to responsible living.

Seasonal Excellence
Fresh ingredients are sourced from our estate’s vegetable gardens and nearby farms, while cruelty-free dairy products are exclusively available at KM0.

Water Stewardship
Water is the nerve of the war. Our water-saving systems include dual-filtered wells, flow reducers on all faucets, and low-drip irrigation for crops and gardens. Rainwater is gathered, vineyards remain unirrigated by choice, and guests enjoy complimentary carbonated or natural water. We raise awareness of appropriate water use among the property’s staff and visitors

Energy Efficiency
Timers, LED lighting, and Class A++ certified appliances reduce power consumption. Complimentary charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as bicycles, encourage greener transportation.

Sustainable Materials
Renovations adhere to ASL standards and prioritize recycled and eco-responsible materials. Natural fabrics, responsibly grown wood, and local artisans’ creations enrich our spaces while supporting the regional economy.

Waste and Recycling
Biodegradable cleaning products are exclusively used, and on-site composting nourishes our gardens. Guests are encouraged to contribute to our waste collection program, promoting a circular, sustainable approach.

measuring
what matters

In 2023, One Belvedere Tuscany, along with its sister properties Locanda Le Piazze and Tavola di Guido, partnered with Azzera to conduct a comprehensive carbon footprint analysis aligned with ISO 14064-1 standards and the GHG Protocol. This meticulous effort covered Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions, demonstrating our commitment to measurable sustainability.

Why Sustainability Metrics Matter for Organic Farming
Organic farming inherently prioritizes practices like biodiversity preservation, reduced reliance on synthetic inputs, and soil health restoration.

However, achieving true sustainability goes beyond these foundational principles. It requires:

Quantifying Impact
Measuring emissions provides concrete data to evaluate the farm’s overall environmental footprint and identify the most significant sources of greenhouse gases (GHGs).

Continuous Improvement
Data-driven insights empower farms to refine practices, adopt cleaner technologies, and lower their carbon intensity while staying true to organic principles.

Transparency
Sharing measured results builds trust with consumers who value accountability and want to know the true environmental impact of their food choices.

Alignment with Climate Goals

  • Precise measurements ensure alignment with global climate action targets, contributing to the agricultural sector’s role in limiting global warming.

Highlights of the Analysis

Scope 1 (Direct Emissions)

  • Tractor operations and company vehicles produced 11.66 tCO₂e, highlighting the energy needs of agriculture.

Scope 2 (Indirect Emissions)

  • Restaurant and spa operations consumed 26,455 kWh of electricity, equating to 8.44 tCO₂e.

Scope 3 (Value Chain Emissions)

  • Procurement of goods and services contributed 984.02 tCO₂e, accounting for 97% of total emissions.
  • Staff commuting totaled 5.91 tCO₂e, while water use and waste were minimized at 0.071 tCO₂e and 0.02 tCO₂e, respectively.

leadership in regenerative agriculture

Organic farming practices, such as composting, cover cropping, and crop rotation, naturally sequester carbon and improve soil health. Measuring the emissions footprint adds another layer of impact by:

Highlight Co-Benefits
Organic practices sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity, and support soil vitality.

Reduce Hidden Emissions
A careful look at supply chains enables better procurement and logistics.

Drive Innovation
Measurable data fosters cleaner technologies like electrified equipment and renewable energy.

a commitment
to the future

By integrating sustainability metrics into every facet of their operations, One Belvedere Tuscany is redefining what it means to farm organically. Our transparent approach to measuring emissions and aligning with global climate goals reflects an unwavering commitment to regenerating the land, supporting communities, and combating climate change. This comprehensive analysis ensures that every action – whether in the fields, the supply chain, or the marketplace – contributes to a healthier planet. At One Belvedere Tuscany, organic farming is not only about cultivating nourishing food but about cultivating a sustainable future for generations to come.
