PRIMO ROSSO
Toscana Sangiovese IGT 2023
750 ml
14,5% alcohol volume
FROM THE WINEMAKER
Our first vintage was truly a ‘baptism by fire’ due to how climatically and emotionally challenging this creation has been. After a dry winter, Tuscany experienced its wettest spring and summer on record, only to be followed by a scorching hot fall.
The unpredictable weather caused a reduction of the grape yield. Our reaction to this has been to be severe in the selection. Primo Rosso, born from our youngest vineyards at 25 years old, is the result. Our first red wine, Primo Rosso bears its primacy in its name.
We winemakers tend to particularly love challenging vintages, because they are the ones that demand more effort and, therefore, more of ourselves. For this reason, the wines born in our first very difficult 2023 harvest will forever hold a place in our hearts.
“It is the time you have wasted for your rose that has made your rose so important.”
— Le petit prince, 1943
TASTING NOTES
Like every real Sangiovese, the color is light and pale in intensity, ruby red in color, no purple reflex, no inkiness, no darkness. Sangiovese is a grape that simply cannot produce black wines.
The aroma transports you to a sun-drenched strawberry field – it is fruity, elegant and gracious. Notes of strawberry, raspberry jelly and wisteria flower fall enraptured in love and attract the taster who cannot resist to pass on the opportunity.
On the palate, the fruit is beautifully defined, balanced by complexity and elegance. The wine is powerful, yet never loses its grace, with a long, lingering finish. The tannins are present, sweet and clean, leaving the mouth refreshed and revealing the wine’s exceptional gastronomic attitude.
While perfectly enjoyable during its youth, as all great Sangiovese from Chianti Classico, Primo Rosso is perfectly able to resist the ravages of time thanks to its great shelf life.
