FROM THE WINEMAKER
At One Belvedere, we discovered a true treasure – an ancient vineyard dating back to the 1970s, perhaps even further back.
A vineyard like this is a rare gem, with its multiple clones, deep-rooted vines, and the rich reserve wood in every plant. Crafting wine from this vineyard was the easiest decision we’ve ever made, and the results have far exceeded our expectations.
Balvede 2023 is a deep, elegant, and baroque wine – the pinnacle expression of our 2023 vintage.
“The young run fast, but the old know the way.”
— Sudanese Proverb
TASTING NOTES
The density and the color of Balvede are the “overture” to a wine of serious richness and complexity. Its dark red hue is laced with ruby reflex.
On the nose, the scent is serious. you’ll find dark ripe cherries, olives, and the sweet spice of clove. The palate is austere yet fresh, with crunchy textures. What the scent promises, you will find in the sip—but be prepared for additional notes of pomegranate, orange zest, and pepper. Soft tannins, a generous body, and an explosion of flavors make it truly captivating.
Though Balvede 2023 is more shy than its predecessor, this is a sure sign of something special to come. Time will be kind to this wine.
